Inaugural Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge Is Underway!
The first ever Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge kicked off yesterday with 26 teams competing over the next six days in a stage style adventure race. Each of those days will focus on a different discipline, with the race starting off with sea kayaking and moving on to "adventure running" today. Over the next few days, the racers will be hitting the mountain bikes, inline skates, and rope courses. There is also an ominous stage that involves "camel hiking" that can't be good.
The current leaderboard shows where all the teams stand after the first stage, with Team Eurosport Sport NZ, captained by Richard Ussher currently in first place, just four minutes ahead of Mike Kloser's Team Nike. Lafuma Sport 2000 sits in third place after the sea kayak leg.
Nike and Salomon/Crested Butte are the only teams from the United States in the race, but the rest of the field is practically a "who's who" of adventure racing, with teams such as Wilsa Helly Hansen, Orionhealth.com, and Lundhags Adventure amongst the many outstanding teams in the race. I expect we'll see a very good competition over the next few days, with each stage bringing some surprises and pushing the teams to be their best.
You can read news and updates on the various stages at the adventure challenge news page.
