Austrian Lake Is Also a Popular Hiking Spot
A rare natural phenomenon turns one of Austria’s most beautiful hiking trails into a 10 meter-deep lake, for half the year.
Located at the foot of the Hochschwab Mountains, in Tragoess, Styria, Green Lake is one of the most bizarre natural phenomena in the world. During the cold winter months, this place is almost completely dry, and used as a country park where hikers love to come and spend some time away from urban chaos. But as soon as temperatures rise, the snow and ice covering the mountaintops begin to melt, and the water pours down, filling the basin below with crystal-clear water.
Water levels go from one-two meters at most, to over 10 meters, in the early summer. The waters of Green Lake are highest in June, when this extraordinary place is invaded by divers, curious to see what a mountain park looks like underwater. Fish swimming over wooden benches, a grass-covered bottom, trees, roads, roads and even bridges create a surreal setting that feels like it belongs on dry ground. That’s because for half of the year, that’s exactly where it’s at.
Take a look at the amazing images of the Green Lake, shot during the summer season:

Heaven Lake Top of Baekdu Mountain
Heaven Lake Top of Baekdu Mountain
Heaven Lake is a crater lake on the border between China and North Korea. It lies within a caldera atop the volcanic Baekdu Mountain, a part of the Baekdudaegan mountain range and the Changbai mountain range. It is located partly in Ryanggang Province.
The caldera was created when the volcanic mountain erupted in 969 CE. Visitors to the lake can enjoy stunning walks, hiking, and horse rides along the mountain paths. Canvas yurts are the most common accommodation for tourists, but there are also more upmarket hotels. The semi-nomadic Kazakh people inhabit the area seasonally. Staying in traditional Kazakh yurts and using their guided horseback tours help them earn the income that they live on for the rest of the year. It can get quite cold in the area, so warm clothes are suggested.

Jellyfish Lake
Jellyfish Lake
Jellyfish Lake (Palauan: Ongeim'l Tketau, "Fifth Lake") is a
marine lake located on Eil Malk island in Palau. Eil Malk is part of the
Rock Islands, a group of small, rocky, mostly uninhabited islands in
Palau's Southern Lagoon, between Koror and Peleliu. There are about
70 other marine lakes located throughout the Rock Islands. Jellyfish Lake
is one of Palau's most famous dive (snorkeling only) sites. It is notable
for the millions of golden jellyfish which migrate horizontally across the
lake daily.
Jellyfish Lake is connected to the ocean through fissures and tunnels in
the limestone of ancient Miocene reef. However the lake is sufficiently
isolated and the conditions are different enough that the diversity of
species in the lake is greatly reduced from the nearby lagoon. The golden
jellyfish, Mastigias cf. papua etpisoni, and possibly other species in the
lake have evolved to be substantially different from their close relatives
living in the nearby lagoons.
