Heart-Transplant Survivor Conquers Andes and Beyond
I was sent this article from MSNBC.com earlier today, and found it very interesting and inspiring. It tells the story of Kelly Perkins who had a heart transplant back in 1995, and has since climbed The Matterhorn, Mt. Fuji, Kilimanjaro and El Capitan. Most recently, she joined forces with her husband Craig to put up a free climb of an unnamed peak in the Cajon de Arenales region near Argentina’s border with Chile.
Kelly went from having to be carried up the stairs of her own house following the surgery, to climbing mountains all over the world. She says she wants to expand the idea of what a heart transplant patient can do, and I'd say she's doing a great job with that goal. She hasn't set a goal for her next climb yet, but perhaps she can join Phill Michael on Everest.
Thanks Carl!
