Iditarod 2007: Off and Running!
The 2007 Iditarod is off and running, with the ceremonial start taking place on Saturday, and the proper start yesterday. Today, the Leaderboard already looks like a "who's who" of Iditarod's past. Currently Clim Smith leads the way, but right behind him is four time winner Doug Swingley, Mitch Seavey is in third place, with Ed Iten on his trail, while, 2005 Champion Robert Sorlie rounds out the top five. 2006 Champ Jeff King is currently in fifth place.
According to this article the early going has been great for dogs and mushers alike. The trail has been fast through the first legs, with no problems reported between Skwentna and Rainy Pass. Still, it's far too early to get to optimistic, as things are just getting underway, and the weather and trail are both likely to turn on the teams before they reach Nome.
Plenty of racing to go. I'll post updates every few days.
