The Rest of Everest: Episode 47

Jon, over at The Rest of Everest has released this week's video, and the title says it all. We're up to Episode 47: Onward & Upward!, and as that title suggests, we see the teams moving up the mountain, with some great climbing footage.

This episode see Ben Clark rejoin Jon as the two narrate the episode and offer insights into what we're seeing. Ben has just returned from 45 days in Nepal, and just in the nick of time, as he explains the climbing elements in the episodes very well. In fact, having Jon and Ben narrate is a lot like having a commentary track to your favorite DVD with the director and lead actor. It's very interesting, and adds a lot to the experience.

In this episode, we see Jon working the radio, hoping to get some news from the climbers above him, but to no avail. He remarks about all the great technology they have at their disposal, and they can contact anyone else on the planet, but they can't get in touch with their teammates just up the mountain. The scene then shifts to the teams moving up, and you'll actually see some impressive shots of the climbers. There is an amazing camera shot of the view looking up at Everest and all the climbers above stretching off as far as the eye can see. It really is a nice indication of what things are like up there.

The next few episodes look like they are going to be pretty impressive. The climb is on, and now is a perfect time to jump on in, and follow Ben and the rest of the climbers as they head up to the summit. The guys also promise us some bonus podcasts coming in the near future that will show what Ben's been up to in Nepal for the past month and a half. If they're anything like the bonus podcasts we had of his China trip a few months back, they should be interesting stuff to watch. Can't wait!
