Expedition Podcasts At Backpacking Light

BackPackingLight.com is compiling quite an interesting set of ongoing podcasts revolving around some very interesting expeditions that are taking place right now.

The newest podcast in their mix is for the Journey on the Wild Coast expedition, which will be following Erin McKittrick and Hig Higman as they take an amazing nine month journey along the coast of Western Canada and Alaska out into the Aleutian Islands. We can follow along on their journey from their official website as they hope to raise awareness of environmental concerns in the areas they'll be exploring. This first episode of their podcast are interviews with the husband and wife team, who will be setting off on their journey from Seattle in just a few days time.

The second podcast is one I mentioned a few weeks back. It's following Matt Hage and Agnes Stowe as they attempt an ultralight climb on Denali. The two climbers are in Alaska now, and should setting off on their climb soon, along the Western Buttress route. They'll be carrying about 30 pounds of gear each for their two weeks on the Denali. This first episode was recorded before they left and discusses the things, both tangible and intangible, that they're taking with them.

Finally, the third podcast is also following an expedition I mentioned some time ago. On the 9th of April, Andrew Skurka set off on what he calls the The Great Western Loop, which is a long distance hike over 6,875 miles in all the Western states of the U.S. Along the way, he'll pass through 12 National Parks and over 75 wilderness areas. There are three episodes available and Andrew discusses the route, his gear (He goes ultralight) and the philosophy of his approach to long distance hiking.

All of theyse are very interesting and great additions to your podcast library. You can also subscribe to them in iTunes to get updates automatically sent your way.
