Adventure Racing News
Check Point Zero has posted some exciting news for adventure racing fans. First up, on Friday I posted that there was a rumor of a new adventure race series starting soon of expedition length. Today, CPZ confirms the story with the first race kicking off in Western Canada in Spring of 2008. Yak can't give too many details yet, but does throw out a few interesting tidbits for us. For instance, it'll carry the richest purse in the sport. 70 teams will be allowed to take place, with registration opening around August 1st. Entry fee is $10,000. He also says that this new series of races will "change the landscape" of adventure racing.
The other story of note is that Primal Quest completely sold out in less than 12 hours. The epic race that has been amongst the crown jewels of the sport the past few years, is returning in 2008, and registration opened today, but also sold out today. Half of the applications were filled out in the first half-hour of registration, confirming a great deal of interest in the race. The details are filling in slowly for next years race. We know that it will be held in a "Western State" next year, from June 21st to July 2nd. Soon we'll know the teams that have registered, and in the Fall we'll know the location of the race.
It looks like we fans of the sport are going to get some exciting races next year. I can't wait to see what these two major events have in store for us. 2008 is shaping up to be a good year for AR.
