Alan Arnette's Denali Report
Alan Arnette has written up a lengthy and detailed trip report from his recent go at Denali. The report is very well written and gives you a nice sense of what is like on these types of high altitude climbs, with lots of general details about climbing, and some very personal ones about Alan's experience on the mountain.
Regular readers to my blog know that Denali was Alan's first big climb on his Road Back To Mt. Everest in which Alan will be climbing to raise awareness and money for the Cure Alzheimer's Fund. If you've followed his regular audio dispatches from the mountain, you know how things went, but this written account offers far more details on what it was like to go through all the work to prepare for a summit bid, only to have an ailment prevent you from topping out.
I've exchanged e-mails with Alan since his return, and he is home in Colorado now, feeling better, and recovering from the trip. He intends to see a sports medicine doctor to find out why he became ill at 17,000 feet, and what he can do to make sure it doesn't happen again. I'm confident Alan will be back on his feet soon, and preparing for his next big climb, which will be Shisha Pangma in September.
We're glad you're feeling better Alan. Now rest up, as Shisha Pangma is waiting, and I'm certainly looking forward to following your climb on that mountain too.
