K2: Summit Push Begins For Americans
K2Climb.net is reporting that the American team on the Abruzzi Spur has begun their summit bid at 3 AM local time yesterday morning. This will be their second go at topping out on K2 this season.
Chris Warner, Don Bowie and Bruce Normand of the Shared Summits Team left BC today and proceeded all the way up to Camp 2. This was no walk in the park however, as they were met with heavy snow, fierce 60 MPH winds, and dangerous conditions. It took the team 11 hours to reach their destination in what their BC Manager described as the worst conditions to date.
The team is taking the chance that a weather window will open today as predicted, and that they'll be in a position to take advantage of it. If everything goes according to plan, they hope to summit on Thursday.
