ExWeb Interviews Jim McNeill On His North Pole of Inaccessibility Expedition
Another excellent adventure interview courtesy of ExWeb today, this time it is with polar explorer Jim McNeill, who is in the process of organizing a ski expedition to the North Pole of Inaccessibility for 2010.
I first wrote about this expedition a few months back when it was announced that Jim was looking to recruit a team to go with him over several stages to the Pole of Inaccessibility, which in this case is defined as the furthest point from land on the Arctic Ocean. McNeill intends to divide the journey up into three parts and take 28 adventurous people with him across the various stages.
In the ExWeb interview he discusses the expedition further, talking about such topics as where the POI is located, the length of the journey, when he expects to start (Feb. 16th) and much more. McNeill intends to spend approximately 80 days out on the ice, with each team doing 20 days each. Over the course of the journey, they expect to cover roughly 820 statute miles.
Interestingly enough, Jim says that he wants a minimum of 4 people with him on each leg of the journey, and at the moment he has just eight total team members. That means there is still time for someone to sign up and join the team, provided you are in good condition, have the determination to see things through, and can raise the £22,000 necessary for sponsorship on the journey. If you want to join, head to the expedition's website and sign up ASAP. If successful, this will be the first journey to the North Pole of Inaccessibility on foot ever. It's your chance to be a part of history!
The interview has lots more information. Definitely an interesting read. I still want to go along! :)
