Canoeing the Length of the Mississippi for a Cause
Stretching more than 2320 miles in length, the Mississippi is the fourth longest river in the world. Running through the heartland of the United States, tales of the mighty Mississippi have long played a role in shaping the myths and lore of that country, even before Mark Twain wrote so lovingly about it. Now, two adventurers hope to write a new chapter in that lore as they prepare to set out on a paddling journey that will take them length of the river as they seek to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.
On Saturday, May 29th, Aaron Drendel and Jake Mullins will begin an epic paddle in the waters of Lake Itasca, found in northern Minnesota. That lake serves as the origin of the Mississippi, and once underway, they'll paddle into the river itself, and begin making their way south along the meandering waterway, all the way to the gulf of Mexico.
Aaron and Jake of dubbed their expedition the Canoe for the Cure and they are focused on raising funds in conjunction with the Susan G. Komen Organization, for breast cancer research. To contribute to their cause, simply click here.
I'm always a sucker for a long distance paddling adventure, and having grown up on the Mississippi River, it has always held a special place in my heart. The fact that these two recent college grads are focusing their efforts on this journey and this important cause makes it even better. Good luck guys!
