Everest Fall 2010: Crossing The Khumbu Icefall

As most Everest junkies know, the scariest part of the mountain is usually the Khumbu Icefall on the the South Side of the mountain in Nepal. It is the part of the climb that is famous thanks to all the videos and photos of climbers walking across large ladders that are put into place over large, gaping chasms. Eric Larsen shared just such a video recently, as he has crossed the icefall as part of his acclimatization process as he attempts to summit Everest this fall as part of his Save the Poles Expedition.

According to his latest dispatches, Eric is in BC and resting before beginning his next climb up the mountain, which should take him up to Camp 3. He's now been on the Expedition for approximately 33 days, which means that he is progressing on schedule and should be making a summit bid sometime late next week, provided the weather holds and the schedule stays intact. While he waits, he continues to give us updates, while plugging for those sponsors as well, and passing along videos like the one below.

No matter how many times I see a video like this one, it always looks scary.
