I had the distinct pleasure of speaking witn Anna Brones from Wend Magazine a few weeks back. We talked about Primal Quest's commitment to the environment, and the steps we take to ensure that we have as minimal an impact on the places we race through as possible.
Anna wrote a really nice article based on our conversation and has posted it in Wend's Greenery section of their website, which is dedicated to examining sustainable practices in our lives that will help protect the environment and preserve it for the future.
Essentially, I told Anna, as you can read in the story, that PQ adheres to the same ecological code as set down by the United States Adventure Racing Association, which, for lack of a better phrase, a "leave no trace" approach. Teams risk disqualification if they do not adhere to the rules and they are required to pack out everything they pack in, and I do mean everything.
The best part of it is that the athletes have absolutely zero issues with this policy. They are as committed as the race staff to protecting the environments, after all if we don't take good care of them we won't have any places to race in the future. The teams simply love the outdoors, or they wouldn't be racing in Primal Quest, and they all understand the value of being good stewards to the land.
