Climber Ang Chhiring Sherpa is hoping to set a new speed record for the Seven Summits. He began his quest last June, when he reached the top of Denali on the 17th of that month. He has since gone on to knock off five more of those iconic peaks, and now just Everest remains to be conquered. He'll give that mountain a go this spring.
A.C., as he is known, isn't just climbing for glory however, he is also hoping to raise funds for a cause as well. He was born in Nepal, and moved to the U.S. to join his brother at a young age. He would later graduate from Mercer Island High School, and return to his native land, where he hoped to give something back to that country. With that in mind, he is taking on the seven highest mountains on each continent to raise money for the Himalayan Women and Children Foundation. He also hopes to raise money for a number of other projects, including a new landing strip, a clinic, school, and hydroelectric project all in the Salleri region of Solu Khumbu, Nepal.
You can read more about A.C.'s quest to climb the Seven Summits in this article, but be warned, it is more than a year old, and has some dubious information in it regardless. (Not sure when Carstensz Pyramid moved to Australia!) Be sure to check out the video below for more up-to-date information.
Thanks to Alan Arnette for the tip off on A.C.'s Seven Summits bid, and good luck to the climber himself as he prepares to head to Everest in a few weeks time.
