Hiking The Anaconda-Pintler WIlderness

The recently redesigned Backpacker.com has certainly done a good job of offering up new content since it's relaunch. There are regular blog updates, videos, gear reviews, and more. One of the things I always enjoy on the site are it's suggestions for places to get off the beaten path and enjoy unusual hikes. Take for example this article on hiking the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness area in Montana.

When someone thinks about this region, they tend to gravitate towards the better known Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks. But Anaconda-Pintler offers up it's own unique experience, not the least of which is solitude on the trail. While those other parks may be more iconic and well known, Anaconda-Pintler straddles the Continental Divide Trail and offers some amazingly scenic and challenging trekking.

Along the trail you'll reach heights of more than 9600 feet, but are rewarded with stunning vistas in all directions. Backpacker recommends a three day itinerary that's best tackled between July (when snow finally leaves the high country) and September (before it returns again!). The article contains directions on how to find the trailhead and some nice useful infor for what to expect along the way.

So, if you're looking for a unique hike this summer, perhaps Big Sky Country may offer what you seek.
