Furnace Creek 508 Results
The Furnace Creek 508 took place this past Saturday, and the results are available online. Billed as an "ultramarathon bicycle race", the 508 mile event is run through Badwater, Death Valley and through the Mojave Desert. The intense heat makes it a difficult and challenging event for any endurance athlete, especially when coupled with the more than 35,000 feet of elevation gain.
In the end, it was Michael Emde taking the top over all spot, riding for 27 hours, 28 minutes, and 1 second. He was followed by Chris Ragsdale with a time of 29 hours, 10 minutes, 43 seconds. Joel Sothern took home third place over all with a time of 29 hours, 58 minutes, 16 seconds.
For the ladies, it was Catharina Berge taking home the top spot, finishing the race in 29 hours, 43 minutes and 1 second. Monica Fernandez claimed second place with a time of 32 hours, 58 minutes, and 12 seconds, and third place went to legendary endurance athlete Robyn Benincasa who finished in 33 hours, 25 minutes, and 6 seconds.
