Hiking Mt. Koscuiskos

Speaking of the Seven Summits, the New Zealand Hearald has published this article on hiking Mt. Koscuiskos. The article is an excellent little trip report on a guided climb on the mountain, which is the tallest peak in Australia, and was once considered one of the Seven Summits. I suppose it still is, depending on who you ask.

For those that don't know the story, the Seven Summits were suppose to be the seven highest peaks on all seven continents. Originally that meant North America (Denali), South America (Aconcagua), Europe (Elbrus), Antarctica (Vinson), Africa (Kilimanjaro), Asia (Everest), and Australia obvoiusly being Koscuiskos. But along the way, the continent of Australia was expanded to include "Oceania" which was meant to include lots of little islands that didn't really form part of any continent themselves. From that area, Carstensz Pyramid, on the Indonesian island of Irian Jaya, was added to the list, and knocked Koscuiskos off. This article makes it sound like a hike up Koscuiskos would still be well worth your time and effort, not to mentio that it technically still is the tallest mountain in Australia.
