MountEverest.net is reporting that an all star cast of adventurers is set to head to Baffin Island as part of a data gathering expedition on global warming. Ed Viesturs will join Will Stegaer and Richard Branson, as well as his son Sam, as the team visits the Inuits on Baffin Island to record data on temperatures in the region.
Viesturs is the first American to climb all 14 of the 8000m peaks, while Steger is the fourth man to ever reach both Poles. Branson is a rich billionaire who has far too much cash on his hands, but is never the less quite generous, and has an adventurous streak a mile wide. Quite the cast of characters!
Baffin Island is the largest island in Canada and is found in the Canadian arctic. The area is very remote, rocky, and mountainous, and prone to extreme cold conditions. You'll be able to follow the expedition from their website starting Feb. 14. Viesturs, Branson, and his son, will join the team at the end of April and remain with them through May, when the project is set to wrap up.
