59-Year Old American Woman Sets Sites On Everest
The Winter Himalaya Season is still going on, albeit with just a few teams, but already our thoughts are turning towards spring when the focus of the mountaineering world shifts to Everest, where hundreds of climbers annually make their bid on the highest peak on Earth. One such climber is Nancy Norris, who Everest News spotlights today as she sets her goal on becoming the oldest American woman to summit the big hill.
Everest New's bio on Nancy seems a bit out of date, as it seems she took up climbing back in 1998, and now has quite an impressive climbing resume that includes all of the Seven Summits, save Everest. She hopes to change that this spring, as her goal of bagging the highest peaks on the seven continents is nearly complete.
While Nancy's resume is indeed impressive, she has yet to top out on an 8000m peak. Back in 2003 she made it to Camp 2 on Cho Oyu, which is at 23,220 feet. Tackling Everest will be tougher than that, but the physical fitness nut will no doubt be ready to go when she heads to Nepal later this year.
Good luck Nancy! We'll be following along back here! Oh, and you may want to give Everest News an updated bio! ;)
