The Rest Of Everest Bonus Episode: Meet Alan Arnette!
As promised by Jon Miller, the Producer of The Rest of Everest, we have a bonus episode this week, and it's one that is near and dear to my heart. This episode introduces us to Alan Arnette a name that should be familiar to regular readers of the The Adventure Blog.
I've been following Alan's Road Back to Mt. Everest project since it was announced in the Spring, and have been honored to have corresponded with Alan himself as he goes about his preparation for this 2008 expedition to climb Everest to raise money and awareness for the Cure Alzheimer's Fund.
This video allows us to get to know Alan much better, as we learn about his background in climbing, and the reasons why he decided to return to Everest, which are very personal indeed. He talks about his connection with the Cure Alzheimer's Fund, and what mountaineering means to him.
Currently, Alan is back in the Himalaya, and will soon be climbing on Shisha Pangma, the 14th highest mountain in the world and one of the 8000m peaks. He has already released two dispatches from this training climb on his website. The first was posted shortly after his arrival in Kathmandu and the second was posted early today from Lhasa, Tibet. In just a few short days, he's gone from Colorado, to Nepal, and now Tibet, and it won't be long until he's on Shisha itself.
In the days ahead, we'll continue to get dispatches from Alan regarding his current climb, and in the weeks to come we'll have the opportunity to follow his progress all the way up Everest. The Rest of Everest will continue to bring us bonus episodes that will not doubt be informative, inspirational, and fun to watch. Jon and Alan joining forces seems like a natural and excellent teaming.
Oh, and one more thing. Jon tells me that the view behind Alan in the video was shot in his "front yard". I don't know about you, but the view out my window doesn't look like that. Just one more reason I need to move to Colorado! Jealousy isn't very becoming in a blogger is it? ;)
