Gear Junkie Evaluates Adventure Racing Gear
Last weekend, The Gear Junkie, AKA Stephen Regenold, decided that he really didn't fell like sitting on the couch, so he decided to participate in a 12 hour adventure race, then run a marathon. That alone makes me feel like a lazy bum, but did I mention that he took first in the adventure race? The next day, following a 4 1/2 hour drive home, and 3 hours of sleep, he also managed to run a 4 hour, 38 minute marathon as well. Not a bad few days of work.
After the adventure race, which was the first ever held in North Dakota, he took the time to evaluate some of the gear that he used in the event. You can read the first of his gear tests here. In this article, he takes a look at his shoes (Inov-8 Roclite 285's), pants (Rail Riders Weatherpants), pack (Inov-8 Race Pro 12), shirt (Ibex Woolies Zip T-Neck), shell jacket (REI Icon Jacket), and sunglasses. (Smith Optics Reactor Max)
The second gear test included his bike (Kona Jake the Snake), boat (Old Town Penobscot 16), an interesting water bottle/gel dispensing system (Gel-Bot), a special pack for keeping your food close at hand while on the bike (Bento Box), and water proof map cases from Sea to Summit.
All in all, quite a list of gear with some short, but good thoughts on each of them. So, if you're in the market for some new AR gear, the Gear Junkie has some nice suggestion to add to your gear closet.
