25 Habits of Highly Effective Hikers

Backpacker Magazine has a really great article on their site entitled 25 Habits of Highly Effective Hikers that is chock full of really great suggestions for hikers heading out on the trail for a day or for weeks at a time.

Some of the suggestions seem like common sense, like choosing the right partner to spend time on the trail with or calling ahead to check trail conditions. Others are helpful tips that you might not think of on your own, like thinking more intelligently about your gear and how it's packed or keeping duct tape close at hand for emergency repairs. (They recommend wrapping it around your trekking poles!)

There are plenty more where those came from, with ideas on taking better trail photos, preparing for inclement weather, grabbing the best campsite, and much much more. I'm sure we all practice some of these, and we've probably heard many of them before, but the article serves as a good reminder, with a few nice new tips mixed in for good measure.
