Kiteskiing Across North Dakota

The Gear Junkie has kicked off the new year with a pair of articles on kiteskiing. Yesterday he published this article about his own experience with the activity over the past weekend. He reports that it was easier than he expected and great fun all around.

Today, he follows the story up with this one about two friends of his that are planning to kiteski across the entire state of North Dakota. Sam Salwei and Jason Magness, along with Paul Cassidy, are planning on setting off in February on a three week long expedition across their home state in an effort to promote renewable energy in the form of wind energy.

The plan is to start in the North West corner of the state and end in the South East, following along the Missouri River as they go. In all, the journey will cover 390 miles, and the men will go unsupported, carrying everything they need with them on their backs. All progress will be under the power of the wind, as they use their sails to catch the wind and propel them forward over the snow in their skis.

You can learn more about the expedition at their official website 2xtm.com, which stands for "to cross the moon". The only problem with that title is that the moon isn't as desolate as North Dakota. I keed! I keed! ;)
