Climber and Author Dougald MacDonald has put together a great list of the 10 Most Intriguing Climbs of 2007 for GreatOutdoors.com.
Dougald describes his list this way:
None of the climbs described here will be featured on a Discovery Channel miniseries. The climbers aren't household names, and to most Americans the routes and peaks will be completely unfamiliar. Nevertheless, I believe each of these ascents will be remembered as milestones.
And for the most part, I think he's right. The climbs the he has selected are all ground breaking and amazing in their own right, like the Huber Brothers breaking the speed record on The Nose on El Cap in Yosemite. That climb makes the list at number 10, so you know there are plenty of other really great climbs further up. The Russians going up the West Face of K2 checks in at number 7, while Ueli Steck's impressive 4 hour ascent of the Eiger edges them out by one spot, claiming number 6 on the list.
Where did the other great climbs of 2007 fall? You'll just have to check out the article to find out. All in all, a great list that couldn't have been easy to assemble. Especially when you consider how great 2007 was for the climbing world. Excellent read.
